Shanghai’s first! South East Asia Extravaganza Pop up market & Community mixer

The Southeast Asian communities came together to showcase their culture, food, brands & products, arts and design, fashion, music and entertainment. Organized by PhilCham Shanghai (Philippine Chamber of Business and Professionals, Shanghai), it was the first Southeast Asian pop up market and community mixer in Shanghai. It was held last May 17-19, 2024 at THE INLET, Shanghai, China.

Locals and expats were treated to unique experiences presented by 30 MSMEs and communities from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and China. Filipino Masskara dancers, Indonesian traditional music & performers, and live bands brought Southeast Asian brand of festivities that    sparked impromptu street dancing from shoppers. Gen Zs and Gen As flocked the painting collab with Beijing-based Filipino painter Jensen Moreno. It rained with raffle prizes including round trip air tickets and hotel stays around ASEAN countries.

One of the missions of PhilCham Shanghai is to encourage entrepreneurship among Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and transform more to become Overseas Filipino Entrepreneurs (OFEs). We organize markets to spark entrepreneurship and promote camaraderie among communities. After the successes of our live fairs Filipino Fiesta & Community market (2019) and Filipino Fair (2023), and Filipino Virtual Markets during the pandemic (2020, 2021); the collective expanded the invitation to the South East Asian friends.

This initiative was presented by Liwayway China (makers of Oishi snacks) and Dai-ichi Electronics Manufacturing Corporation. Supported by the Philippine Department of Tourism, Indonesia Consulate General, Indonesian Trade Promotion Center Shanghai. Generous sponsors include AirAsia, TyanTsen, Bebebalm natural skin rescue, Kitivity, TPC Dental Associates, IMI (an Ayala Company), Epermarket, Feliz Hotel Boracay, Parkyard Hotel, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, Bela Fiesta Filipino restaurant, and more.

We're on the news in the Philippines and China!
